Dear Bryn Mawr Community,
Last night, racist graffiti was again found in Rockefeller dormitory. As we shared with you on January 21st, a racist slur was discovered in this same dormitory and is still under active investigation. We perceive this new offense to be an escalation and an explicit threat. We have therefore involved the Lower Merion Police and have reached out to the FBI. While not targeted to a particular individual, it is an attack against Black members of our community.
The person or persons responsible must be held accountable. We are pursuing every possible avenue to discover the perpetrator. We ask that the individual or individuals responsible come forward and take responsibility for the harm that these actions have caused. We invite anyone with information to contact Lil Burroughs, Bi-Co Executive Director of Campus Safety at lburroughs@brynmawr.edu, or call her directly at 610-526-7303.
We are deeply concerned about the impact of these attacks on the campus and particularly on the students, faculty, and staff most immediately affected. Dean Ann-Therese Ort铆z, the Pensby Center team, the Deans, and the Dorm Leadership teams are working to support students. This evening at 6:30 PM in Goodhart Hall we are offering an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to gather and connect with each other and the people who are working to address these threats. While we will likely not have much more information to share, we want to keep communication channels open. We will continue to provide updates to the campus as a whole, as additional information becomes available.
As always, we hope that students will reach out to their deans and members of the Health and Wellness team for support as needed. We ask faculty and staff to be mindful of the impact these actions may have on students and colleagues.
Sincerely
Kim Cassidy, President
Jennifer Walters, Dean of the Undergraduate College
