Campus, Town & City Life
Postbacs know how to relax, have fun, and socialize with their fellow students. They engage in student-led committees鈥攕uch as Baking, Diversity, and Wellness Committees鈥攑articipate in intramural sports, volunteer as assistant coaches of College sports teams, and attend cultural events held in the Tri-Co community and beyond.
Campus
Bryn Mawr College offers a variety of cultural, social, and recreational activities that enhance its stimulating educational experience. Postbac students are encouraged to take advantage of campus facilities and activities. Our athletic facilities include a 50,000-square-foot gymnasium, an Olympic-size pool, fitness center, basketball court, and outdoor tennis courts and fields for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey. In the arts, Bryn Mawr sponsors a variety of dance, music, and theater performances directed by faculty members and students. An extensive program of readings, exhibitions, performances, and workshops by visiting professional writers, artists, actors, and musicians complements these activities.
Or, when you're feeling more introverted, our postbacs share a wide range of personal interests with their peers, including cooking and dining, music, yoga, hiking, running, extramural team sports鈥攁nd just hanging out!
Town
Bryn Mawr College is located in Bryn Mawr, PA, the heart of Philadelphia鈥檚 Main Line suburbs (). A serene town with a population of 9,000, Bryn Mawr offers a variety of retail stores, restaurants, apartments and rental properties, and other services. A train station within 5 minutes of the College makes Bryn Mawr easily accessible from throughout the region.
City
Just 11 miles to the east is Philadelphia, a vibrant urban mecca of history, culture, and entertainment. Our proximity to the Philadelphia area鈥檚 wide array of cultural, athletic, and dining venues, are a springboard for socializing with one another. Anchored by the Kimmel Center, home of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Avenue of the Arts in Center City is where you will find all of the performing arts, including ballet, drama, jazz, musicals, opera, pop, and rock. The city鈥檚 major museums of art, medicine, and science鈥攖he Philadelphia Museum of Art, Franklin Institute, Mutter Museum, and Academy of Natural Sciences鈥攁re situated along the Ben Franklin Parkway. One of only two US cities that boast professional teams in all four sports, the city鈥檚 arena complex in South Philadelphia includes baseball and football stadiums for the Phillies and Eagles, and a combined basketball and hockey arena for the Sixers and Flyers.
Philadelphia is also one big college town. In fact, its 80 colleges and universities give the city the highest per capita concentration of higher education institutions in the nation鈥攐ne-third of all residents in the heart of the city are between the ages of 18 and 29.
If you need a change of scene, New York City is just 100 miles to the north and Washington, DC, is 133 miles to the south鈥攐nly a few hours by car, bus, or train.
