Alternative Indoor Performance Spaces

While the two theaters in Goodhart are amazing performance spaces, they get booked weeks—even months—in advance, and the competition for the space can be fierce. If a student group is flexible about performance space, there are other spots around campus that can function as performance spaces for theater groups, a cappella ensembles, and more. Reserve spaces through Virtual EMS.

Arnecliffe Studio

Arnecliffe Studio on Bryn Mawr campus

Arnecliffe Studio is Bryn Mawr's visual arts space, created by students for students. Although the space is mostly used for student art projects and workshops, it is easily converted into a space for small musical performances. Visit the for more information.

Campus Center Balcony

Bryn Mawr Campus Center Balcony

The balcony of the Campus Center is well suited for small instrumental ensembles. Sight lines from the main lounge up to the balcony aren't great, but musical ensembles can perform here with good results. Larger audiences can fit downstairs in the main lounge.

Campus Center Main Lounge

Bryn Mawr Campus Center Main Lounge

The main lounge is one of the next go-to performance spaces when Goodhart is booked. It's spacious, easily re-arranged, and can fit a large audience. Theatrical performances can take place here, as can a cappella concerts. The lounge gets a lot of foot traffic, so noise can sometimes be an issue, but when students realize a performance is happening, they do tend to quiet down.

Denbigh Dance Studio

Denbigh Dance Studio on Bryn Mawr Campus

The Denbigh Dance Studio is located inside Denbigh dorm and is wheelchair accessible. It is smaller than the Pem Dance Studio but is spacious enough for small dance performances, theater performances, and a cappella concerts. It has full audio capability, several mirrors, and Marley flooring. Because of the special flooring material, anyone who enters the space must remove any shoes that might damage the space. The dance studio is a curricular space and is only accessible via OneCard, so arrangements need to be made with the OneCard office (x7930) and the Dance Department (x5602 or mcantor@brynmawr.edu).

The Lusty Cup

The Lusty Cup is located on Floor A of Canaday Library. It's a casual performance space, with maximum occupancy of about 50 people. Furniture can be rearranged to create an impromptu space for performers.

Multicultural Center (MCC)

Multicultural Center on Bryn Mawr Campus

The MCC is located near Cambrian Row, and is a great space for small lectures. It has an open, cozy space for meetings or talks, and is a perfect space for hosting a speaker who will address issues of diversity. The MCC is accessible via OneCard, so arrangements need to be made with the OneCard office (x7930) beforehand.

Pembroke Dance Studio

Pembroke Dance Studio on Bryn Mawr Campus

The Pem Dance Studio is located over Pem Arch, between Pem West and Pem East dormitories. It is an open, sunlit space perfect for medium-to-large dance performances or a cappella concerts.

Quita Woodward Room

Quita Woodward Room in Canaday Library on Bryn Mawr Campus

The Quita Woodward room is located in Old Library and can hold 50-75 people. It is often used for informal discussions or readings; a cappella groups also use this space for casual performances.

Great Hall

Great Hall on Bryn Mawr Campus

In Great Hall a small stage can be erected at the front of the hall, and chairs can be set up to seat more than 300 people. Great Hall needs to be reserved well in advance of the prospective performance date(s) through Conferences and Events.
