Newly Admitted Students

Welcome to the Bryn Mawr international community!

Congratulations on your admission to Bryn Mawr College! International Student and Scholar Advising is here to support you through the process of obtaining immigration documents and arriving in the United States as an international student.

We use international advising software to assist incoming students to obtain their immigration documents. I-20 documents are for students obtaining a degree at Bryn Mawr College. DS-2019 documents are for our exchange students.

You must complete your profile in GPS. You must upload a copy of your passport identity page and will be required to submit documentation of sufficient financial resources to study in the U.S. for one year. Refer to the estimated expense chart below to determine your total cost. You must present original documentation of your required personal funds (expected family contribution) during your visa interview at the U.S. embassy, and you may be asked to present your financial documentation at the port of entry upon your arrival to the U.S. Therefore, we advise that you obtain several copies of the original documents. Please ensure that you receive official financial documents that are dated within six months of your program start date.

Immigration documents (I-20 and DS-2019) will be issued at the end of the spring semester.

All incoming first-year international students are strongly urged to arrange their travel schedules so that they can arrive in time for the International Student Arrival Day on August 27, 2024.

If you arrive before International Student Arrival Day, you must make a reservation for temporary accommodations off campus. Accommodations are in demand at this time of the year, so reserve early. Please be aware that housing is not available on campus before Arrival Day.

Mandatory Immigration Check-in meeting and registration on SEVIS

All international students in initial or transfer F-1 and J-1 status are required to complete Immigration Check-In to be registered in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). The International Student and Scholar Advising office staff must receive and review your immigration documents and contact information to register you as an active student in SEVIS. All undergraduate students will receive information about the mandatory Immigration Check-In with the ISSA office during Arrival Day. Graduate students will be contacted by the ISSA office to schedule their Immigration Check-in. Incoming International Students must complete check-in within 10 days of arrival in order to maintain federal regulations with their visa.
