James E. Rhoads Memorial Literature Fund
Designated for the purchase of books in Biblical literature and Christian ethics.
When President Rhodes died in 1895, the College paid the remainder of his salary for that year to his widow, Margaret. Finding that she did not need the money, she returned it to the College and the first endowed book fund was established.
Gloria and Franklin Robinson Neuroscience Book Collection Fund in Memory of Helen Robinson 1966
Designated for the purchase of books in Neuroscience.
Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Robinson, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, established a book fund in memory of their daughter, Helen Louise Robinson, Class of 1966. This fund will further the Library's collection in the area of Neuroscience and supplements the collection in this field donated by the Robinsons to the College.
Helen L. Robinson Book Fund
Designated for the purchase of books in Biology.
Established by a gift from Franklin and Gloria Robinson, Class of 1945, in honor of their daughter Helen L. Robinson, Class of 1966, who received her M.Phil and Ph.D. from Yale in 1968 and 1971, respectively, and her M.D. from Dartmouth in 1978. Shortly after earning her M.D. her career was, "untimely interrupted by MS."
Margaret Nichols Smith and Content Nichols Smith Fund
Designated for the purchase of materials for the general collection, with preference for those in English literature.
Established in memory of Margaret Nichols Smith, Class of 1897, and Content Nichols Smith, Class of 1899, M.A. 1900, by Delia Smith Mares (Mrs. Joseph R. Mares), Class of 1926. Margaret Nichols Smith's major subjects were English and German. Content Nichols Smith's major subjects were Latin and French; her graduate studies were in Latin and English.
Nancy Hough Smith Fund
Designated for the purchase of materials for the general collection, with a preference for those in Chemistry.
Established in memory of Nancy Hough Smith, Class of 1925, by gifts from friends, classmates, and colleagues. Nancy Hough Smith majored in Biology and Chemistry and was President of the Bryn Mawr Alumnae Association from 1957 to 1960.
Mary Hamilton Swindler Book Fund
Designated for the purchase of books in Archaeology (Mediterranean).
Established as a memorial fund to Mary Hamilton Swindler, Professor of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr from 1912 until her retirement in 1950, by gifts from friends, colleagues, and students. There has been a constant flow of contributions to the fund in recent years.
